A bit of history on Tapas

The tradition of serving small snacks with drink can be found all over Spain. These snacks are called Tapas, which literally means cover or lid. Whilst the exact origin of tapas is unknown it is generally accepted that it comes from the old practice of placing a slice of bread or a piece of ham on top of one’s glass of wine to keep out insects. This edible lid was the precursor of modern day tapas.
